Mauricio Funes, designated President of the Republic of El Salvador
Salvador Sánchez Cerén, designated Vice-President of the Republic of El Salvador
Medardo González, General Coordinator of FMLN

Honorable Presidente, honorable compañero Vicepresidente, queridos y queridas compañeros/as del FMLN,

Please receive our warmest congratulations to this historical electoral victory and your election as President and Vice-President of the Republic of El Salvador.

The party DIE LINKE has followed the political developments in El Salvador during the last months, and especially the successes of FMLN with high attachment. We are convinced that your victory is a victory of peace, democracy, national reconciliation and social progress in your country, and also another important milestone towards a peaceful and progressive development and integration in Central and South America.

We would like to express our high respect for your political success despite an aggressive and polarising electoral and media campaign against the political left. And we are aware of the high responsibility you will be facing in the context of the current economic and social crisis and in a complicated parliamentary balance of power.

Never the less, a majority of people has given their voices with reason to the FMLN candidates because they trust in your capacity to resolve the most urging problems in the Salvadorian society – such as unemployment, poverty and social inequality, violence and homicides.

Please be assured in our plain solidarity and our best wishes for a successful government in the interest of the Salvadorian population. DIE LINKE is looking forward to strengthening and deepening the strong and longstanding relations between our two parties.

Comradely good wishes,

Lothar Bisky
Oskar Lafontaine
Helmut Scholz
