60 Years of Bundeswehr - 60 Years of Resistance Against Militarism
60 years of Bundeswehr also mean 60 years of resistance against war and militarism. DIE LINKE demands the immediate end of all foreign assignments of the Bundeswehr and rejects a combination of military and civil measures. At the 60th anniversary of the Bundeswehr, DIE LINKE demands to embed the prohitibion of arms exports in the Basic Law. The Bundeswehr will become 60. This means 60 years of resistance against war and militarism, declares Christine Buchholz, member of the the party executive committee and spokesperson for defence policy of DIE LINKE parliamentary group.
War is the main reason for people fleeing. The response of the federal government on war refugees is to expand and prolong military interventions. German weapons kill all over the world, German soldiers are in action from Mali, to Iraq, and Afghanistan. Even at the sidelines of the Syrian conflict the federal government considers the deployment of German reconnaissance tornados.
It is cynical when the conservative former federal defence minister Jung demands to contain the reasons for escape with the help of German military. Civil conflict prevention, development cooperation and humanitarian help have as much in common with the growing militarisation of German foreign policy as a weapon with a well.
Sixty years after the foundation of the Bundeswehr, German forces are being restructured to become a powerful and globally deployable offensive army at any time. This leads to further expensive armament projects. The Bundeswehr has, thus, long become an instrument of foreign power expansion and to safeguard interests.
