Aerial Warfare Over Syria: No to an Ongoing and Never-Ending Military Intervention of the German Armed Forces!

“There must be no further never-ending military intervention of German armed forces in the Middle East”, warns Christine Buchholz, member of the Executive Board of DIE LINKE and parliamentary group spokesperson for defence policy, after plans of the federal government became known to invest over 65 million euros in a new military aircraft area on a Turkish military base to operate tornado missions over Syria and Iraq. Christine Buchholz states further:

After Afghanistan, the German federal government, near the Syrian border, prepares another permanent military presence in a war-zone. The decision comes only one week after the US Pentagon in new orders explicitly authorised its armed forces to approve of civilian casualties. The German federal government thus shows its acceptance of such a policy of blind bombings.

The permanent military basis in Incirlik, Turkey, could absord twice as many soldiers as are currently deployed. Obviously, the federal government, step by step, plans to make Germany a military power in this crisis-ridden, oil-rich area. This is not a war against terror, but rather for geo-political and economic interests.

It speaks for itself, that this plan as well only became public through the press. German Defence Minister Von der Leyen promised transparent actions, yet, week after week she decides to extend employments without pre-informing the Bundestag. DIE LINKE asks for an immediate withdrawal of all German forces from Syria and Iraq.
