Arms Deals With Ukraine Must Also be Stopped

„Arms deals with Russia must be stopped, but also the ones with Ukraine“, commented spokesperson for defense of parliamentary group DIE LINKE, Christine Buchholz, the decision of minister for Economic Affairs, Gabriel, to suspend the Rheinmetall delivery of a combat training center to Russia. Buchholz further:

„The non-delivery of the combat training center to Russia is not more than a first step. Unlike minister Gabriel asserts, this measure does not defuse the conflict in Eastern Ukraine because it is part of a one-sided intervention in favor of the central government in Kiev. Also, the military support of Ukraine must be stopped.

Unfortunately, it can not be seen that arms exports are treated more restrictive under minister for economic affairs, Gabriel, than during the preceding government. Armament exports to countries like Saudi Arabia or Algeria continue.

There is no basis for compensation demands on the part of Rheinmetall. The federal government must not even get involved in negotiations about that. If there are no businesses with war pulled off the taxpayer may not be asked to pay up for it.“
