Cameron Wants to Make EU a Mere Free Trade Union

“Cameron wants to make the EU a mere free trade and competition union. To this the European Council may not succumb”, comments Alexander Ulrich, spokesperson of DIE LINKE parliamentary group in the EU committee of German Bundestag, on the latest proposals of reforming the European Union. Ulrich further:

“Measures to protect national democratic processes and against discrimination of non euro-countries within the European Union are legitimate. Yet, basically Cameron wants to get rid of the anyhow few social policy obligations that come along with EU membership. Free trade and competition are to become the highest European values.

Social rights need to apply to everyone everywhere in the EU. The European Council becomes the gravedigger of the idea of a social Europe if it follows President Ronald Tusk and yields to this issue.”
