Chemical Weapons Propaganda: Obama Trespasses Red Line

„The U.S. are doing it again. In 2003 the Iraq war was initiated basing on a lie about biological weapons. Now, Obama is constructing himself a reason for war against Syria. The evidence, however, is very, very shaky. Most of all, there is no proof that the Assad regime has possibly made use of chemical weapons“, comments Jan van Aken, deputy party chair of DIE LINKE and spokesperson for foreign affairs of the party’s parliamentary faction, on the latest statements of the U.S. government about Assad having used chemical weapons in Syria.

Van Aken further: „Even if toxic gas was actually used in Syria, it remains entirely open, who did so. The claim only Assad has control over those weapons is very far-fetched. Since Obama’s warning of a „red line“ we have to expect that rebels do everything to feign a chemical weapons attack or even causing it themselves to provoke the U.S. to enter war. Because of that it is appropriate when the UN commission for Syria points out that it is not possible to determine the suspects.

There is much to be said against the use of chemical weapons – IF they actually have been used – by Assad’s government forces. From a military perspective the use of minimal amounts of toxic gas isolatedly at one point makes no sense at all. In combat, single toxic shells give no measurable advantage tactically, while strategically their use is highly risking a military assault of the U.S. A use of single chemical shells by the Assad forces would thus be extremely irrational.“
