Complete Troop Withdrawal out of Afghanistan Overdue
On behalf of the Executive Board of DIE LINKE, Christine Buchholz comments on the U.S. government considering to completely withdraw U.S. soldiers out of Afghanistan by the end of 2014:
An entire drawdown out of Afghanistan is overdue. The fact that the U.S. government considers this possibility openly, exposes the German government. Instead of eventually withdrawing, NATO and Federal Government plan for an interminable commitment far longer than 2014 under the acronym ITAAM. The announced withdrawal of the Bundeswehr until the end of 2014, as announced by the Federal Government is purely eye wash.
The argument quoted by minister of defence, de Maizière, about the security situation dramatically deteriorating after a withdrawal, is a pretense. In fact the majority of the Afghan people feel threatened by NATO troops and wishes their withdrawal. The NATO war has claimed uncountable victims and the life of more than 3200 NATO soldiers.
