DIE LINKE Condemns Attack in Ankara
At its meeting the Party Executive Committee of DIE LINKE unanimously decided the following:
DIE LINKE (The Left) condemns the attack in Ankara which caused the death of probably some 28 people. This incident will undoubtedly escalate the conflict even further. However, to ascribe this attack to someone within the ranks of the Syrian Kurdish YPG, is aimed at safeguarding one’s own interest and to serve as justification if Turkey should want to send ground forces to Syria.
DIE LINKE condemns the Turkish Government’s continued actions to besiege entire Kurdish towns and kill civilians has been going on for many months. The actions of the Turkish "security forces”, the Turkish military, and Turkish special police forces in Kurdish areas is cruel and reminiscent of siege and occupation; here Turkey is increasingly leading a war against its own people.
DIE LINKE calls on the Federal Government of Germany to strongly criticize the Turkish Government’s actions within the Kurdish regions. Following the bombardment of Aleppo by the Russian Air Force, the Turkish bombardments of the YPG positions near Aleppo will lead to an increased escalation in the war about Syria. In contrast to the US Federal Government which also clearly condemns the attacks by Turkey on YPG, up to now the Federal Government of Germany could not bring itself to formulate a clear position. The Luxembourg Foreign Minister, Jean Asselborn, quite correctly pointed out that the NATO Alliance case only applies when a NATO country is being attacked, but not when it attacks itself. The actions of the Federal Government of Germany towards the Turkish Government plays a key role in the further development of the Syria war. Clearly, the Federal Government of Germany up to now maintains and gives Turkey support in her course of war.
DIE LINKE calls on the Federal Government of Germany not only to condemn the Russian bombing, but also to decidedly condemn the operations of Turkey in her warfare about Syria. The Federal Government must finally stop its course of supporting Turkey’s policy of war. This involves no further collaboration with Turkey in the field of police and military matters, no further exports of arms and weapons. To initiate further negotiations with Turkey relative to a EU membership would be totally wrong in the light of the prevailing situation and would be regarded as a support of Turkish politics.
DIE LINKE decidedly rejects the dirty deal of Germany and the EU with the Turkish Government to cut ourselves off from refugees. The classification a " safe country of origin” is cynical. Turkey closes borders and even sends people back to Syria. This deal with Turkey is, above all, aimed at outsourcing the dirty business of rejecting refugees. That is not only inhuman, but also counterproductive, because Erdogan’s policy of warfare drives even more people to flee within and from Turkey. The claim of Angela Merkel for a "flying-ban-zone” in Syria which apparently she also accomplished to push through at the EU Summit, is wrong as it would cause even further escalations. Interestingly enough, the United States of America reject such a flying-ban-zone in that they hold against it: "When such a zone is set up, one must also be prepared to shoot someone. And that would mean a dramatic escalation of the situation which already is complicated enough.” (Charles Brown, Commander of the US Air Force Component of CENTCOM). Remember, the war against Libya began with such a so-called "flying-ban-zone”.
DIE LINKE is strictly against any bombing in Syria, and therefore clearly opposes the deployment of the Bundeswehr (Federal Armed Forces) in the Syria war which would be a logistical support of the bombings in Syria by the Western coalition that is headed by the United States of America. The Federal Republic of Germany thus becomes part of the war about Syria. DIE LINKE demands to end the various military missions in Syria.
