DIE LINKE Participates in Blockupy Action Days in Frankfurt

On 31 May and 1 June, the Blockupy action against social cutbacks and the power of banks will be held in Frankfurt's banking district. At the same time, people in eleven European countries, from Portugal to Greece, from France to Ireland, will take to the streets against the impoverishment policies of the troika. To this Christine Buchholz, member of the executive board of the party DIE LINKE, declares:

Youth unemployment in Europe has reached a sad new record of 6 million. Spain and Greece are leading with 55 and 60 percent respectively. But the troika of ECB, EU and IMF, the leadership of Angela Merkel, wants to cut more jobs and enforce wage dumping under anyway. European politicians try to outdo each other with suggestions. The French socialist president Hollande praises the German Agenda 2010 as a model and wants to impose massive cuts in social services. We say NO to a policy that hits the wage earners, the unemployed, pensioners and young people in Europe but spares the rich and the banks. This is a policy, which is operated by Merkel and supported by the SPD and the Greens.

The Left sets a sign of international solidarity in Frankfurt. We protest against the abolition of social achievements in the name of saving banks and corporations - whether in Europe or in Germany. Party chair Katja Kipping will speek at the opening of the demonstration. Other members of the party executive committee, including Sahra Wagenknecht, deputy party chair, as well as Heinz Bierbaum, Christine Buchholz and other members of the Bundestag and the state Parliament of Hesse will participate in the protests.
