DIE LINKE’s Statement Regarding Recent Events in Turkey
At today’s parliamentary group meeting the representatives of DIE LINKE adopted the following statement:
“We condemn the police attack on the Gay-Pride-Parade in Istanbul. This demonstrates that the AKP is relying more strongly on the baiting of and violence against minorities and dissidents after the loss of their majority in the Turkish parliament.
In this context the AKP’s plans to invade northern Syria (Rojava) constitute a new step of escalation. President Erdogan and the AKP are evidently on the verge of provoking a war of aggression. We condemn these plans of invasion as a clear break with international law and with the prohibition of the threat and the use of force in international affairs, which lies in the UN Charter.
We request that the Federal Government finally and unmistakably denounce the AKP’s inhuman course of action against minorities and above all else not continue to remain silent on the supply of arms as well as other support services to Islamist terrorist groups by Germany’s NATO partner Turkey.
We call upon the Federal Government to end their support for the Erdogan regime. This requires the withdrawal of the Bundeswehr from Turkey as well as an immediate halt to armament exports.
We declare our solidarity with the people persecuted on political grounds in Turkey and support the fight of the party HDP for democracy, peace, and social justice.”
