Do Not Normalise Military as a Means of Politics

Regarding today’s peace report of leading peace research institutes Vice Chair of DIE LINKE, Tobias Pflüger, declares:

Without sharing every statement in detail, it is remarkable that the peace report – like DIE LINKE - clearly critizes and fundamentally questions the principles of the new German foreign policy of the Great Coalition.

The EU role in the Ukrainian conflict is called great power politics. The peace researchers also advocate an explicit rejection of Ukraine entering NATO. Like DIE LINKE the peace researchers demand: „Paramount aim has to be the end of violence and the reconstruction of a partly collapsed Ukraine.“

Also, the remarks of the peace researchers regarding the inhumane refugees policy of the EU and its member states and the critique of the acting of the Federal Government in respect of NSA are shared by DIE LINKE.

The peace researcher – like DIE LINKE - critize all attempts to „flexibilize“ the parliamentary reservation in the matter of foreign assignments of the Bundeswehr. The results of the Afghanistan employment are devastating. They basically critize to normalise military as a means of politics.

DIE LINKE – like the peace researchers - resolutely opposes the departure from residues of a „culture of military reserve“ as it became obvious in the speeches of Joachim Gauck, Ursula von der Leyen, and Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Munich Security Conference.

The Federal government would be well-advised to consider the statements of the peace report 2014 and to change its militarised foreign policy.
