Federal Government Needs to Support Truce in Colombia
“The bilateral and final agreement on a truce today signed between the government of Colombia and the guerilla organisation FARC-EP is a historical caesura and a first step towards the end of the internal armed conflict.” declares Heike Hänsel, vice chair of DIE LINKE parliamentary group. Hänsel further:
“To sustain the peace in Colombia it is now necessary that negotiations are taken up between the Colombian government and the second largerst guerilla organisation ELN without preconditions.
DIE LINKE welcomes the agreement on the safety warrants and the fight against the criminal organisations responsible for massacres and murder. That must also contain the successors of the paramilitary groups endangering the implementation of the present agreement and peace.
The federal government needs to support the United Nations in the necessary civil measures to verify the bilateral truce, the laying down of arms and the peace agreement.”
