Flight is Always the Last Hope
To the today published refugees report of the UN, after which 45.2 million people lived as refugees last year, Katina Schubert, member of the executive comittee of DIE LINKE, declares:
The figures of the UN prove that worldwide approximately every four seconds someone flees from his native place. Poverty, natural catastrophes, exploding food prices but most of all wars are the reasons for this. In regions where war currently rages, as in Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, Sudan, and Syria the situation for the people is disastrous.
The conditions are also devastating where rasicm and anti-ziganism drive people to flight, even within the EU. The worldwide economy crisis of destroys any perspective for organising their life for many people in different countries within and outside of the EU. Many of them will also try to find a living elsewhere. Federal interior minister Friedrich acts cynical by stirring up hatred against poverty refugees and haggling over refugees quota.
He, who alleges refugees to come with intent to defraud to Germany wants to exclude and seal himself off. This is on the level of a pub debate and simply rascist. We demand from the EU interior ministers to finally enforce minimum standards for asylumseekers on a high human rights level. We need to change the regime for asylum seekers in the EU. Its external borders have become fatal for more than 20.000 people. This is why we demand: open borders for people at need, decent accomodation of refugees and a fast access to persperctives for those looking here for protection and admission. The suffering of the people is due to political reasons, for which the federal republic is in many cases accountable. Because of that it is our responsibility to contribute to relieve distress and take in refugees.
