Germany has to Take in More Syrian Refugees
„The admission of Syrian refugees has to be considerably accelerated and simplified“, demands spokesperson for domestic issues of the faction DIE LINKE in Bundestag, Ulla Jelpke, on occasion of the nation-wide refugees day on 27. September. Jelpke continues:
„Already in May it was decided to admit 5.000 Syrian refugees from Libanon. The first group of 107 refugees was only flown out in September, the admission of the remaining refugees will take until next year. This is inacceptable. The admission procedure has to be notably accelerated, for example by abandoning the two-weeks stay in transit camp Friedland.
For Syrians living in Germany there must be a simplification of procedure to take in relatives from Syria. The resolution of the Bundestag from June, enabling admission of refugees by relatives will otherwise become obsolete. This, actually simplest, way of taking in refugees currently fails due to administrative barriers. In the end only very wealthy families can afford to take in their relatives, because they have to account for all expenses accruing in Germany. The Federal Republic as well as the states must eventually create comprehensive facilitations by, for example, absorbing health insurance costs.
Furthermore, the EU has to open its borders to refugees. The military barrier of the EU‘s external borders forces refugees to take ever more dangerous routes and claims more and more victims. A humane way to approach refugees has to apply not only to Germany but also to the external borders. Therefore, DIE LINKE demands to abolish the residential obligation, decentral accommodation of asylum seekers, the German social welfare Law for asylum seekers, and the ban on work for asylum seekers and „tolerated“ persons.“
