Greece Is Everywhere!
Declaration of the Party Executive Committee of DIE LINKE, Berlin, May 10, 2010
No export of "Hartz IV” to Greece and Europe! Demonstration on the 12. of June!
Millions of greek women and men demonstrated against the "Sparpaket”, the savings package of the PASOK government under the dictation of EU and IMF. This is a matter of defending democracy against the financial markets. We solidarise with the fight of the greek trade unions and the greek Left.
The government of the Federal Republic of Germany is responsible for the wildfire in the eurozone due to its aggressive export policy – also in the defence sector – as well as its refusal to regulate speculators.
The cut in pensions and wages does not only mean social hardship, but is also devious in terms of economic policy. By strangulating demands in the domestic market the crisis is deepened. This puts a threat on employees all over Europe. The federal government intends to export "Hartz IV” in a radicalised way to Greece and eventually throughout Europe.
The greek trade unions have proved that political strike is a weapon against cuts in social welfare. It is time that this instrument finally gains acceptance in the Federal Republic as well. Especially in Germany after the elections in Northrhine-Westphalia dramatical attacks of the government are to be expected. The minister of finance, Schäuble, already announced cuts in social spending by €10.000.000.000 a year. Considering a prospected tax loss of nearly €40.000.000.000 a worsening of the situation is imminent.
Now most of all necessary are measures to regulate the financial markets. Additionally, banks, the rich and any other profiteers of the finance industry have to be asked to pay. Therefore we need a finance transaction tax and a millionaires tax.
A first step towards the formation of the resistance and the fight for alternative claims are the demonstrations on 12. of June in Berlin and Stuttgart. DIE LINKE supports these.
