Grief and Distress

The party chairs of the party DIE LINKE, Katja Kipping and Bernd Riexinger, as well as the head of the parliamentary faction of DIE LINKE in Bundestag, Gregor Gysi, declare regarding the demise of Lothar Bisky:

In high distress and deep mourning we today learned of the demise of our friend and comrade Lothar Bisky. In these hours our thoughts and compassion are with his family and his friends. There are many who mourn for Lothar Bisky. The party DIE LINKE loses one of its founding chairs, a strident and solidary comrade, and a counsellor. The Federal Republic loses a major co-creator of the presence. Europe loses an engaged fighter for the project of political, social, and economic unity of the continent. Social justice loses a strong contender.

Lothar Bisky decidedly shaped the Party of Democratic Socialism. He was one of those who passionately fought for the new DIE LINKE and struggled for its consolidation. He led and shaped the party DIE LINKE. He was contender and fighter for a united and strong, pan-German and European, left socialist party. His political legacy is reminder and incentive to us.

We mourn for one of us. We mourn for someone with a highly decent character, with comprehensive tolerance, deep compassion, profound humour, and great modesty. We mourn for Lothar Bisky.
