Heavily Failed and Nothing Learned

Today, Amnesty International presented its report: „ Living in Insecurity: Germany is Failing Victims of Racist Violence”. The results are alarming, the failure of institutions extensively”, says Party Secretary Matthias Höhn. He declares further:

The result of the report, today presented by Amnesty International, on the dealing of German institutions with victims of racist violence are alarming, despite the expectable outcome.

A frighteningly high number of assaults on refugees, refugee shelters, and other crimes motivated by racism, are only countered by a very low clearance rate. Single convictions cannot hide the fact of the overall failure of institutions.

Even worse: German institutions can not only not guarantee the protection of refugees and shelters; there are even “clear signs of institutional racism”. Prejudices and ignorance often prevent the detection of the racist background of an action.

Obviously, no conclusions were drawn from the general shock at the collective institutional failure in connection with the NSU (National Socialist Underground terror group). Germany fails protecting the ones in need of protection.

One reason lies in the endless cutting of public infrastructure: There must be more funding for the whole palette from educational work to additional staff in institutions, administrations and police. The welcoming culture, demonstrated by neighbours and volunteers, needs to enter administrations and offices far stronger than before.
