Kunduz Trial: Federal Government Dodges Responsibility
The announcement of the federal government to apply for dismissal of the cases of the victims in the Kunduz trial beginning today before the Land court of Bonn comments Christine Buchholz, member of the Executive Board of the party DIE LINKE:
The announcement to apply for dismissal of the case is another haughty step of the federal government in a number of disrespectful manners towards the victims of the bombing. It’s a scandal that the federal government still refuses to accept liability for the bombing of Kunduz and to appropriately compensate the victims. The bombing ordered by the federal army (Bundeswehr) was the most serious military crime Germany committed since World War II.
Since more than three years victims demand compensation from the federal government in vain. The government refers to the tentative payments of 5000 dollar it paid to some of the families. But with the NATO's admission of guilt in Afghanistan up to 30000 dollar for each deceased are usual. Many bereaved, especially widows, live in poverty. In place of the victims Abdul Hanan, having lost his two underaged sons by a bomb attack is now filing a suite. Jan van Aken and me could get an impression of his fate and that of other families victim to the bombing in Kundus in 2010. Our solidarity is with the survivors and bereaved and their courageous fight for justice.
