Living in Freedom Without Need and Fear

Tomorrow the 65th Memorial Day of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights will be celebrated, which was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 10. December 1948. To this Katja Kipping, party chair of DIE LINKE, declares:

Human rights are no rights to be deserved. This pertains to all human rights – civil, political, cultural, economical, and social; and also to the right to social security. All people have the right for a life „in freedom from fear and want“, as the preamble of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states. Poverty and exclusion from social life by denying social security benefits are not consistent with human rights. Thus, the petition of Inge Hannemann to abolish all sanctions and benefits cuts in the social benefits system is to be supported.
