No Bombs on Gaza and No Missiles on Israel!
To the humanitarian situation for the people living in Middle East as well as the negotiations of the conflict parties to produce a truce, member of the executive committee of DIE LINKE, Wolfgang Gehrcke, declares:
In Middle East people are hurt and killed again, infrastructure – homes, radio stations, hospitals – is destroyed. Since weeks parts of Israel are fired at from Gaza, where Hamas rules. Now the Israeli army executes attacks on the Gaza Strip by air, sea, and land. Ten thousands of Israeli soldiers are arrayed. DIE LINKE requests an immediate termination of the violence. No bombs on Gaza and no missiles on Israel!
The announcement of a ceasefire raised hope in the whole world, especially with the people of Gaza. Those must not be disappointed. The next step after a truce is an immediate and unconditional armistice, to end killing and destruction. To this, we in Germany stand up and there is need for international mediation. Only when the weapons are silent, it is reasonable to speak and negotiate about further steps.
The humanitarian situation of the people must be central. First of all international aid is needed to provide Gaza with drinking water and energy as well as medical treatment of casualties, the wounded, and the sick outside Gaza, where possibilities of proper treatment are limited.
The Federal Government, in view of a situation that dramatic, fails completely. It is no honest mediator in this conflict. It makes onesided demands on the Palestinians and abandons to equally distinctly request a termination of violent acts by Israel. DIE LINKE asks the Federal Government to call for an end to violence from both sides.
