No To U.S. Sabre-Rattling Against Iran

To the new warnings of U.S. Secretary of Defence Leon Panetta against Iran Christine Buchholz, member of the Executive Board of the party DIE LINKE, declares:

U.S. Secretary of Defence, Panetta, declared the United States would prevent any attempt by Teheran to intervene in the Syrian conflict. This is nothing else but a direct threat of war. The U.S. government previously only showed its concern over an imminent attack of Israel against Iran. But apparently this pertained only to the date. Obama does not want an Israeli attack before the upcoming U.S. presidential elections. By delivering bunker busters to the Netanjahu government the U.S. government is already taking part in the preparations for the next big war in Middle East.

Also, Panetta's remarks referring to Syria are hypocritical: U.S. Secretary of States, Clinton, already in April publicly requested the Security Council to work vigorously for a resolution in accord with Chapter VII of the U.N. Charter – meaning military intervention in Syria. To publicly prohibit Iran to intervene is poor distraction from own activities. For month the U.S. supported those Syrian powers with millions of dollars of which they expect the establishment of a regime to their liking.

Panetta's threats make clear that the U.S. government does not care about democracy in Syria but about the preparation of an attack against Iran. DIE LINKE requests the Federal government to publicly stand against the sabre-rattling from the Pentagon. We support the peace movement in its fight to prevent imminent war.
