On the Bomb Attacks in Istanbul
DIE LINKE party chairs, Katja Kipping and Bernd Riexinger, declare regarding the bomb attacks in Istanbul:
We are horrified by the bombings in Istanbul. Our sympathy goes to the victims and their relatives. The happenings must be examined thoroughly. Turkish society becomes more and more undemocratic and divided under the power-obsessed policy of ruler Erdogan. His route into an authoritarian regime leads to a dangerous polarisation and the loss of democracy, basic rights and freedom. Since June 2015 in Turkey at least 372 people died and 1837 were injured during 17 bomb attacks. We join the call of our sister party HDP condemning the bloody assault in Istanbul, and calling AKP government officials to moderate their speech of hate and violence. The people in Turkey do not need a presidential system à la Erdogan but instead peace, freedom, and democracy for all citizens.
