On the Terror Attack in Ankara
In the wake of the terror attack in Ankara leading to the death of 28 people, Bernd Riexinger, chair of the party DIE LINKE, declares:
I am appalled and sad about the death of 28 people. My sympathies war with those who knew and loved them. There is nothing to justify terror.
President Erdogan banks of militarisatin and repression – means that harm the population, the peace process and democracy. The government wages a war against the Kurdish people. Erdogan risks a direct military intervention in Syria and drags NATO in a war with Russia. This has to be avoided by all means!
The EU heads of state at today’s meeting need to make clear that they do not tolerate the military actions of the Turkish government. Concerning migration policy, the EU may not leave to Turkey the dirty business of defence against refugees. Instead of undermining basic elements of the EU by national solo efforts including seclusion and deportation, reason finally has to return to enable a European-wide fair distribution of burdens.
