Protests Against EU Austerity Mandate More Than Justified

To the protests against the upcoming EU summit in Brussels Christine Buchholz, member of the Executive Board of DIE LINKE, declares:

The ban on the demonstration of the alliance „For A European Spring“ against EU austerity mandate in Brussels scheduled for tomorrow is scandalous.

It’s no wonder the EU heads of states fear democratic protests. After the fiscal pact they plan another attack on social achievements and workers‘ rights in the whole of Europe with the so called „Pact for Competetiveness“. Spokesperson of the cuts plan unfortunately is the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. She pushes on with the competetiveness pact, which envisages  european-wide wage dumping to raise the profits of the European corporations. The employees of Europe are supposed to pay for the crisis not caused by them but rather banks and corporations. The resistance against it has our full support!

The alliance „For A European Spring“ now wants to join the demonstration and rally of the European Trade Union Confederation „Against austerity and for jobs for young people“. Tomorrow‘s protests of trade unionists and social movements against the EU summit of the heads of states are more than justified.
