Resolution of the Federal Committee

Solidarity with HDP! For an End of Erdogan’s War Politics!

We are worried that the Turkish governing party AKP, after losing its absolute majority in the National Assembly, all the more banks on agitation and violence against minorities and dissidents while President Recep Tayyip Erdogan terminanted the peace process in Turkey. By bombarding the PKK, Erdogan hits out at exactly those forces that most firmly oppose the barbaric terror organisation “Islamic State” (IS). Since the AKP regime’s announcement to fight IS, the organisation steadily advanced. We disapprove of the termination of the peace process in Turkey by Erdogan and call on all parties to return to the negotiating table.

We denounce the combatting of the Kurdish self defence forces in Iraq and Syria by the Turkish AKP government and its president. The attempts to subjugate the Kurdish forces with military means are a direct support of the Islamist terror organisation IS. Additionally, the plans of the AKP government for an open offensive war against Syria are a new step of escalation as well as a clear breach of international law and the prohibition to threaten with and implement violence in international relations established in the UN Charter.

The AKP which also inside the country banks on confrontation leads the country ever closer to a civil war. Especially the attacks of the HDP party by the AKP regime reached a new quality. This is the attempt of the AKP to secure its power by pushing the HDP below the 10% threshold via repressions and election fraud. The situation escalated further by country-wide attacks on HDP offices caused by an angry mob and police standing idly by. The assault on the editorial office of newspaper “Hürriyet” in the beginning of September by violent AKP supporters represents an unparalleled attack of the freedom of press in Turkey. As a temporary climax of the policy directed against the Kurdish minority Turkish police and military besieged the Southeast-Anatolian town Cizre, where nearly 20 civilians – among them women and children – lost their lifes.

We solidarise with the politically persecuted in Turkey and support their fight as well as the fight of the HDP for democracy, freedom, and social justice. We ask the federal government to support the HDP in its search for a solution with peaceful means.

The federal government eventually has to unmistakeably reject the escalation policy of the AKP government against the oppostion and the whole Kurdish population.

We ask the federal government to immediately impose a ban on German arms exports to Turkey, especially since the federal government cannot rule out that they will be employed against the Kurds or be passed to terror gangs as Al-Qaeda and Ahrar ash Sham.

Before the background of Erdogans escalation policy we demand to end the cooperation on police, secret service and military level with Turkey and to suspend the PKK ban in Germany.

We appeal to the Turkish electorate living in Germany to vote for HDP during snap elections on 1st November.
