Solidarity With HDP!

Resolution of the Party Executive Committee

On 20 May 2016 Turkish President Erdogan successfully banned representatives of HDP party from parliament. The Turkish parliament, with a two-thirds-majority, deprived itself of its power and lifted the immunity of 138 MPs – among them comrades of the HDP in order to prosecute them because of “complicity in terrorism” and “offense”. The accusations are to some extent completely absurd and constructed. In parliament and outside, DIE LINKE decidedly takes a stand for HDP. DIE LINKE calls for all democrats in Europe and in our own country not to leave the democrats in Turkey alone.

This is an authoritarian attack on the parliamentary democracy in Turkey which is anyway already weakend. It is supposed to pave the way for a de facto dictatorship of an Erdogan state which is not willing anymore to tolerate a democratic Kurdish opposition against its ongoing policy of violence and suppression of elemental civic and freedom rights. It is also a targeted at all those in Turkish society who refuse to participate in the war against Kurdish people, who keep fighting for human rights, democracy, and rule of law.

We call the federal government to finally show another attitude and end its comradery with the autocrat Erdogan. The firm advocating of human rights, democracy, and rule of law in Turkey is the order of the day for all democrats – be it in Berlin or Brussels!

DIE LINKE remains a staunch supporter of all those who fight for peace and freedom in Turkey and Kurdistan!

We ask all our party members and political friends to participate in possible local protests of the Kurdish and Turkish opposition in Germany in the spirit of international solidarity!
