Stationing of Patriot Missiles Increases Danger of War

To the stationing of Federal Armed Forces and Patriot missiles to Turkey, Christine Buchholz, member of the Executive Board of DIE LINKE, declares:

The Federal government is currently trying to make Germany a war party in Near East. It quickly pushes through the stationing of missile systems and up to 400 soldiers in Turkey. Its reasoning is feigned. Patriot missiles are not appropriate to protect civilians in the Turkish-Syrian border region. And there is no attack against Turkey.

The Erdogan government asked for Patriot missiles to draw NATO in its border conflict with Syria. The Turkish parliament already approved of an invasion to Syria. The stationing of defence missiles heightens the chances of war, because it encourages the Erdogan government to implement military actions.

The stationing of Patriot missiles is part of restructuring the Federal Armed Forces to a globally acting intervention army. The Federal government wants to demonstrate military deployability under real operating conditions. For this, it risks to draw Germany into a war in Near East.

It is pathetic that SPD (social democrats) and Grüne (greens) by a majority support a policy of turning Germany into an international war party. DIE LINKE says No to the stationing of Federal Armed Forces to Turkey.
