Executive Committee Meeting, June 4, 2016

Brief Information

Dear Comrades, last Saturday the Party Executive Committee met for the first time since being newly elected in Magdeburg one week ago. Therefore it was necessary to adopt constitutional resolutions. Issues were, among others, the rules of procedure, staff responsibility, and the agenda for the next months. The PEC agreed that in future not only resolutions but also the notes of meetings open to party members will be published on the party homepage after an appropriate time for objection.

Central to the further meeting was a first evaluation of the Magdeburg party congress, the consultation on the congress resolutions, and an agreement on when to deal with the motions committed to the PEC. Some of those motions the PEC already agreed on Saturday. The submitters have been and will be informed about the date of dealing with their motions in the PEC. At its conclave on 2 and 3 July in Rostock the PEC will treat further committed motions and assess the party congress extensively. This will result in a written evaluation and a proposal of possible conclusions for the federal party office.

The PEC, once more, condemned the cake attack on the parliamentary group leader Sahra Wagenknecht during the congress. The absurd equation of AfD and LINKE, connected with the attack, was decidedly rejected by the PEC members. Not only has DIE LINKE consistently and unanimously opposed a tightening of the asylum law, our comrades are furthermore reliable partners in various alliances against the far right and actively support migrants.

Central to the conclave in Rostock will be the political priorities for the next two years; mainly in view of the federal elections of autumn 2017. Among others, we will discuss an agenda for the drafting of a federal election programme. Furthermore, the other members of the Executive Board and representatives of the PEC in the Federal Committee need to be elected.

In solidarity
