Executive Committee Meeting, September 9-10, 2017

Brief Information

Dear Comrades, only 11 days left until federal elections - we are in the middle of the hot campaign phase. The campaign is received positively on the streets and in talks with the citizens, our events are highly frequented, our truck is successfully roaming the country. On Saturday the Party Executive Committee (PEC) talked about the current state of the campaign.

DIE LINKE makes the difference - social justice is electable!

We are well received among the people with our messages. These are all good preconditions to reach our election goals. I remain optimistic if we mobilise all our forces now for the final sprint. Our message until 24th of September: every vote counts! The race for the top position has been decided. Now we fight for whether the higher political pressure in the next parliament will come from the left or the right. Therefore we need to mobilise our voters: we want to become stronger, we want ten percent plus x and regain the 3rd place, so that the strongest headwind for the new federal government comes from DIE LINKE.

To make it clear again once more why it is worth to vote for DIE LINKE, the PEC agreed on a declaration on Sunday "DIE LINKE makes the difference - social justice is electable!". Party chair Katja Kipping presented the five main points to the press on Monday.

Motions submitted from the Congress and Committees

The PEC welcomed Moritz Thielicke of district organisation Zwickau, and Anne Urschl, spokesperson of federal working group Health and Social Issues. The motions submitted from the Congress G.1 "On the abolition of forced membership in associations" and G.2 "For a life in dignity - beyond perfection, eugenics and euthanasia", however, have been rejected.

The PEC further convened an employer committee for the upcoming collective bargainings as well as a committee on religion and world view.

Assessment of campaign "That's essential!" and further resolutions

After two years the PEC evaluated the campaign "That's essential!" in a first paper. End of January we will organise a workshop in which we will debate approaches and topics to further improve the campaignability of the party.

The PEC bears legal fees of 1800 Euro in context of the procedure "Dresden nazifrei".

We support the call of the alliance for sexual self-determination.

Membership figures again developed very satisfyingly this year. On 30th June 2017 we counted 59523 comrades. That means a plus of 613 compared to 31st December 2016. The numerous new entries during the federal campaign are not yet included. The PEC was furthermore presented with an information on last year's membership development in the local organisations as well as the financial planning for the first half year 2017.

Our election party will take place on 24th September, 2017, 4 pm at "Festsaal Kreuzberg" in Kreuzberg, Berlin.

In solidarity,

Matthias Höhn
